David Cook’s post-Idol debut album David Cook was certified platinum on January 22.

David Cook was released on November 18, and has sold nearly 900K.

FYI: RIAA certification is based on units shipped to retailers, rather than sold, which explains why albums are often certified before they sell a million copies.

Congrats, Cookie! And those numbers will just get higher with his appearances and publicity on Idol and as more singles — I’m hoping for “Declaration” or “Come Back To Me” — are released. I bought the album the day it came out, and I still haven’t taken it out of the rotation of CDs I listen to when I’m driving. I wasn’t wild about his first single, “Light On,” but it has really grown on me. And it’s still blowing up on radio. That’s two years in a row now, with Jordin Sparks and David Cook, that Idol has hit a home run. Let’s make it three.
