“This is like a high school reunion for Idols”
Posted by: Ryvos | 1 Comments | Categories: Articles.

For the first time, all seven “American Idol” champs were together on one stage Thursday night for the kickoff of the new American Idol Experience attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

“This is like a high school reunion for Idols,” said David Cook, who teamed up with Carrie Underwood for a duet at a private premiere party attended by media and invited guests.

Also taking the stage in the 1,000-seat Idol Experience Theater were Jordin Sparks, Taylor Hicks, Fantasia Barrino, Ruben Studdard and the first Idol, Kelly Clarkson.

They were all given silver commemorative trophies modeled after microphones.

“This is a lot of fun for us to be together at one time,” Underwood said.

A new review
Posted by: Ryvos | Comment | Categories: Articles.

American Idol winner David Cook has come out with his all-new self-titled debut album. Produced by Grammy winner Rob Cavallo of Green Day and Kid Rock fame, the album contains a lot of mainstream radio rock songs like “Declaration,” “Heroes,” “Light On,” “Come Back to Me,” “Life on the Moon,” “Bar-ba-sol,” “Mr. Sensitive,” “Lie,” “I Did It For You,” “Avalanche,” “Permanent” and “A Daily Anthem.” A bonus track is “The Time of My Life.” Nine of the songs in the album were cowritten by Cook himself alongside well-known and established songwriters Chris Cornell, Brian Howes and Cathy Dennis.

As any American Idol fanatic would attest, David Cook is known for his amazing ability to personalize any song and turn it into something new, original and unique. Although I may not be a certifiable rock aficionado, I came away regarding Cook as truly in a level of his own. What differentiates him from the other American Idol winners is his wide knowledge on musicality and style. It is easy to hear how his creative juices were tapped extensively and intelligently, as he effortlessly gives his personal stamp on these anthemic rock songs. Obviously, his music influences come from listening to different styles of singing and performing rock, and this has made listening to the album quite an exciting ride.

One interesting tidbit that I was able to find out about a song included in the album, entitled “Permanent,” is that it is a personal song of Cook’s for his brother Adam, who is currently fighting a losing battle against cancer. Among all the songs in the album, the lyrics here are both touching and heart-wrenching at the same time.

As a music lover of wide interests, the eponymous album of Cook, I believe, is a good investment and would be an excellent part of any music collection. Even though the songs may not be the typical ballads that most Filipinos are known to favor, the music here does evoke a sense of adventure and excitement that not a few Pinoys equally adore.

The David Cook CD is available at all Music One outlets and branches nationwide.

David Cook Entertains in Persian Gulf

Blue Springs, Missouri native, David Cook, is entertaining American troops in the Persian Gulf as part of the USO Tour.

The American Idol spent time at seven military bases and sang songs off his self-titled album, including his latest hit ‘Light On.’

“It’s no secret that a lot has happened in my life over the last couple years,” said Cook in a prepared statement. “One minute I’m winning American Idol, the next minute I’m releasing my first major-label album and now I’m visiting troops overseas with the USO. I’ve had a lot of career highlights so far, but this tour ranks among the coolest and most memorable things I’ve ever done.”

‘Idol’ champ Cook keeps rocking
Posted by: Ryvos | 1 Comments | Categories: Articles.

When he was on American Idol, David Cook — as cool as a cucumber for much of last season — fought back tears after performing for a studio audience that included his brother Adam, who’s fighting brain cancer.

It was a moment of raw emotion, winning Cook the sympathy of viewers who’ve also been touched by tragedy.

Cook’s tears have flowed more freely in private. The 25-year-old rocker, who won the Fox competition in May, fueled his anguish over Adam’s illness into the gut-wrenching ballad “Permanent,” one of 13 songs on his namesake debut album.

After recording the track in two takes, “I actually called my dad and wept openly for about 10 minutes,” he says.

“Anytime you can create something where what’s in your head actually comes out the way you originally heard it, it can be pretty overwhelming and pretty heavy,” he adds. “I just remember being completely knocked on my (butt) by this song.”

American Idol got it right with Cook

Last seasons winner releases his new album

Whether you were a fan of David Cook or David Archuleta, everyone can agree that last season of “American Idol” was far from a disappointment to its loyal fans.

Both Davids had vibrant personalities and some serious talent, but America voted and David Cook won by approximately 12 million votes. Did viewers get it wrong?

Last November, David Cook released his self-titled album, receiving mixed reviews. Is it possible that those who gave Cook negative reviews did not like him, his type of music or were just plain mad that David Archuleta came finished in second place? Considering the enormous popularity of the album, it must be a combination of all three.

Statistically, Cook’s album speaks for itself. His first and extremely popular single “The Time of My Life” debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 3. The album also debuted at No. 1 on Top Digital Albums, giving American Idol its 210th No. 1 on a Billboard chart.

His popularity cannot be denied. According to the “American Idol” website, Cook’s “The Time of My Life” charted in the double digits, making him one of only 15 solo male artists to do so for 10 weeks or more since 1961.
