The older brother of American Idol champ David Cook has lost his battle with brain cancer, according to the singer’s official website.
Adam Cook, 36, a lawyer, died early Sunday morning after an 11-year struggle with the disease, which had spread to his spine. He leaves behind his wife, Kendra, and their children.
David made the announcement Sunday morning at the 12th Annual Race for Hope 5K run/walk in Washington, D.C. benefiting finding a cure for brain cancer. The “Light On” rocker was the event’s honorary chairman and his team raised more the $97,000 for the cause.
The brothers had one of AI’s most memorable, tear-worthy moments ever, when Adam sat in the audience in April 2008 and watched David perform his rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.”
Residents of their hometown in Terre Haute, Indiana, raised $45,000 so that Adam could be flown in with the proper medical care.

“American Idol” season seven champ David Cook is returning to the show that made him a star.
Cook, who battled David “Archie” Archuleta to win last season’s crown, will perform a new single from his self-titled debut album, “Come Back To Me” on the Wednesday, April 1 edition of “Idol.” Cook’s November release has already been certified platinum and entered the Billboard Top 200 at No. 3, the best debut from an “Idol” winner since 2006. Cook’s first headlining tour, “The Declaration Tour 2009,” began on February 13 and, according to a Fox press release, is still “going strong with sold-out dates.”
Pop sensation Lady GaGa will also perform Wednesday night. The singer/songwriter had an amazing run to the top of the single charts with “Just Dance” and will perform “Poker Face,” her second hit song from her debut album “The Flame.”
A number of former “Idol” winners have already returned to the show’s stage this year including Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Carrie Underwood.
The show will also feature the elimination of one of nine current finalists: Kris Allen, Anoop Desai, Matt Giraud, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, Megan Joy, Adam Lambert, Scott MacIntyre and Lil Rounds. The fun begins at 9:00 PM ET/PT on Fox.

The RBC Center rocked to a packed house last night thanks not only to the Carolina Hurricanes win over the Ottawa Senators 2-1 but also thanks to the presence of reigning American Idol, David Cook, as he signed autographs and met fans prior to the game. This was part of 96Rock FM’s “Rock ’N Roll” night promotion. Cook was available to visit with fans from 6pm-6:45pm, just 45 minutes. But, that didn’t stop his fans from running to get into line with even just 10 minutes left to spare.
I, too, was one of those fans (not the “running” ones). The only words I spoke were, “Hi, David. So nice to meet you.” What I really wanted to do was act like a silly school-girl and say, “I love you, Man!” when really it’s his music that I love. Even still, I had 30 seconds to come up with just exactly what I wanted to say and what I said was the best I could do.
Thanks so the Carolina Hurricanes, 96Rock, and David Cook for making this Idol…and Canes…fan smile!

Yep, it’s going to be a reality show double header as Ryan Star, a contestant on the second season of Rockstar Supernova joins Idol Season 7 winner David Cook on his spring tour.
From the press release:
“Mark Burnett Records/Atlantic recording artist Ryan Star has announced details of a major U.S. tour. The acclaimed New York-based rocker will join David Cook for the trek, kicking off February 13th at Florida State University’s Club Down Under in Tallahassee (see itinerary below) with a special hometown headline performance at The Bowery Ballroom on March 17th. The dates then continue through late April. The tour heralds the release of Star’s long awaited label debut, “11:59,” which arrives everywhere this summer. The album is preceded by the single, “Last Train Home,” which is impacting now at Hot AC radio outlets nationwide. The track is currently available via iTunes and all digital services, while a companion video has just completed production and is slated to premiere shortly.”
Interesting. Like David, Ryan is probably looking to snare new fans in the college community too.

Well, the Grammys are this weekend and we’re vaguely excited, sort of! In addition to a bunch of not-bad performances, Sunday night’s ceremony will feature the hippest slate of nominees in recent memory: Lil Wayne! M.I.A.! Radiohead! Estelle! Wait a minute, though — didn’t those artists all release their albums in like, 1987? Yes! Thanks to the Grammys’ early-closing eligibility window (to qualify for a nod, CDs must be released by the end of September*), most of the records competing for top awards are ones we stopped listening to over a year ago. And the ones we’ve been listening to for the past four months can’t win anything until next February. So which artists will take home the top awards in 2010?
Best New Artist: This will be an interesting category next year — does the recording industry really have the money to break any new pop stars in 2009? We suppose it could go to an indie artist who’s been around forever and finally gets some mainstream attention (Feist was nominated last year for her fourth solo album), so if Animal Collective can get one of the songs on Merriweather Post Pavillion used in an iPod commercial, we think they could actually have a shot. Just kidding — it’ll probably go to David Cook or someone terrible.

From his MySpace’s blog:
Last Saturday, both Mr. Cook and I got to perform at a corporate event for Primesource in Hollywood, Florida (Where I used to live!) I was nervous before I went on stage because it was the first time I’d done a set that long since my vocal chord paralysis issues a few years ago. I was hardly able to do 1 song after that happened, and so I was even nervous with the tour when I did 4 songs heh, just because I wasn’t sure if my voice would be able to handle it. But I did 10 songs for the corporate event, and my voice was fine! It just made me feel really good to know how much my voice has improved since that whole weird thing. We had a lot of fun though, and Cook and his band were amazing as always. It was good to see him, because I haven’t seen him in a while. It’ll be fun to see more of the old gang at the Disney thing coming up in a couple of weeks. I took some pictures of Cook and his band from backstage, but they’re really lame…. so… I’m not putting them up haha.
